Root canal treatment (endodontics)

If a tooth or the root is traumatised or has deep caries, root canal treatment may be necessary to save the tooth.  This means that the aim of the treatment is to preserve the tooth. The minimally invasive, gentle removal of the inflamed or affected nerve with subsequent cleaning, disinfection and hermetic covering is carried out under local anaesthetic. A tooth should often be crowned after treatment to prevent it from fracturing.
